But leaders are making some progress on where to allow the practice, which has been popular for decades in Sandbridge and has recently become more common all over the city through websites like Airbnb.

This week, staff presented five areas in the city where homes could continue to be rented out for less than 30 days – as long as they follow regulations that leaders are still crafting.

Note: Did you know Ocean Park is older than Sandbridge and that short term rentals have been part of the culture here too?

Scharlene Floyd of the COE issued a permit extension on March 30, 2018 to extend the permit effective through May 13, 2022.

Route 35 is a trolley that runs every 30 minutes from Shore Drive to Rudee Inlet.

    Route 31, Aquarium and Campground Trolley
    Ride the VB Wave trolley south to campgrounds and tennis courts, fun parks, and to the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center. Catch the Atlantic Avenue trolley (Route 30) for points north. Aquarium and Ocean Breeze serviced during operating hours only.

    May 20 – Labor Day, 9:30 a.m. until 11:10 p.m.
    Daily about every 20 minutes.

3600 block of Shore Drive near the intersection of Dinwiddie Road has been reduced to one lane for emergency water main repairs.

​VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (April 25, 2018) — The eastbound 3600 block of Shore Drive near the intersection of Dinwiddie Roadbca has been reduced to one lane for emergency water main repairs. Warning signs are posted advising motorists of the utility work. Motorists are strongly encouraged to seek alternative routes.

Water service has been interrupted for some customers in the immediate service area. For additional information, please contact Robert Wheeler with Virginia Beach Public Utilities at 757-621-6072.

It went out about 1255am.

Wonder what other infrastructure Phase 4 will fix under Shore Drive once started.

“The next round of improvements Virginia Beach plans to pursue along Shore Drive includes the stretch from Marlin Bay Drive to the west end of the Lesner Bridge.”

Further west, on the other side of the Lesner Bridge, the few sidewalks are narrow and end abruptly.

The newest phase the city wants to fund is still a ways off from construction – it’s scheduled to start in 2023.

Hopefully, it can be done sooner, said Vice Mayor Louis Jones, who represents that part of the city.

The Ocean Park Civic League (OPCL) Board of Directors recently discussed Short Term Rental (STR) and Event Homes at our April meeting.

Based on our experience, STRs have not been a problem in Ocean Park.

STRs have operated here for years appropriately, with
landlords who take their hosting responsibilities seriously to maintain the tranquility of a bayfront community.
